About | Our Founder
Semper Fi Parents of Hudson Valley (SFPHV) was started by Paula Zwillinger in 2004 when she realized there was little information available to support her when her son Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps. Despite not wanting her son to go into the military, when he finally did, she wanted to know all she could. As a nurse, Paula knew that emotional support was important for parents of military members. She started Semper Fi Parents of Hudson Valley to support other Marine parents, and eventually, parents who had children in all military branches. Sending care packages to deployed troops was a way for Paula and other parents to feel useful.
Sadly, Paula suffered a Mom’s worst nightmare in 2005 when her son was killed in action in Fallujah.
Paula found solace in her continued work with Semper Fi Parents of Hudson Valley to support deployed troops and the parents of active military members. Many care packages were sent to deployed troops and to the wounded in hospitals, not only in the United States but in Landsthul, Germany where Americans were taken who had been wounded in the Middle East.
Paula touched many lives over the years not only through her work with Semper Fi Parents of Hudson Valley but as a much sought-after speaker at military events.
At the end of 2013, Paula was called to other responsibilities in Georgia, but many of the long time volunteer members have chosen to continue the work and mission of SemperFi Parents of Hudson
